I love fabric (aka thank goodness I had a girl)!

Since I had my daughter I've developed a slight obsession with fabric! I know how to sew but have never sewn clothes or used a pattern. While flipping through photos on Love,FromNora's facebook page I came across an adorable dress that she made for her daughter & thought to myself that I could do that. Helped that I just happened to have some red polka dot material & black bias tape in my stash!

On the left is the adorable inspiration & on the right is my sweetie. Don't you just love bald babies!

I must admit that the dress was supposed to be about 3 inches longer but I screwed up the top & made it way too tight. I had to cut the top off but this ended up being a blessing in disguise as I figured out a much better way to do the straps. I added some stripes just so that I wasn't being a total copycat & a bit of rick rack to spice it up. I am sooo pleased with my first result!

Love,FromNora provided me this pillow case dress tutorial to help me along. I love so many of Prudent Baby's adorable tutorials & have bookmarked a few to make.  Here are some of my favourites...

Etsy also has some great pattern makers. I bought these two last week from Brynnberlee Designs when she was having a BOGO sale.

And these 4 from heidiandfinn a while ago. I plan to make matching sweatshirts for my son & daughter from the bottom left pattern.

So now that you know my patterns I guess I should show you my fabric. Here are the ones that I bought online. (Click on the picture to view larger.)

The top 8 are from RaspberryCreekFabric. I can not say enough good things about Diana & would recommend her a thousand times over. She has been so helpful with helping me match fabrics & flip flopping on choices.

The bottom 4 are from 699PerYard. Communication was pretty poor & shipping was really late which left me a bit frustrated but I do like their selection. They have a lot of older designer fabrics that are no longer being sold anywhere. I came across them when looking for the green bird fabric & saw that they had minky on sale. I was able to ship 9 1/2 yards of fabrics & 2 1/2 yards of minky to New Zealand for under $14 so I guess that makes up for my other frustrations!

And to top it all off I'm going to use the fabrics from this bundle that I got from 699PerYard

to make a stroller blanket with scalloped edges inspired from this tutorial by zaaberry.  Mine will be squares with a minky back.

I hope I’ve inspired some of you to get your sewing machines out but if you’re not in to sewing or don't know how then check out the adorable dresses at BabyChunkyCheeks. Be prepared for an overload of cuteness!

So... any suggestions on which fabrics I should match with which patterns??

  1. Love it all! I, too, have a growing fabric addiction and LOVE browsing online or the old fashioned way, through an actual fabric store, to see what treasures I can find. It's a full on obsession now!

Another fabric addict here! I just keep buying and buying and buying! :)

I think the Brynnberlee pattern on the right will be DD's first birthday dress but with all colours of the rainbow! :)
