Featured Seller: Heartfelt Yarn Wreaths

Hello!
My name is Katie, and I am the proud owner of Heartfelt Yarn Wreaths I am happy to be a part of both the Etsy community, and the Wedding Bells community (MissEmma), and am excited to make my first authored post for this blog.

What is the story behind your Etsy shop?

In July 2010, my husband and I moved into our first house. As the infamous prairie winter rolled in, I wanted to do a little something to decorate my house. A long-time Etsy addict, I began looking at different décor ideas. I came across the concept of a yarn wreath. It had been a while since I had exercised my crafting muscles, and decided to see what I could do to create a yarn wreath of my own. After searching online tutorials, I ventured to my nearest Michael’s with a 40% coupon in hand. A few hours later, and with more than a few scalded fingers from my glue gun, I had created my first yarn wreath in late November 2010.

Here’s a picture of my very first yarn wreath that I made for myself! My techniques have grown so much since then, that every time I make a new wreath, I am tempted to keep it for myself!

Quite pleased with myself, I posted that exact picture to Facebook. Within hours, I had requests from friends and family members asking me if I would make one for them, too. Within a month, I sold over 20 wreaths! It was then that I decided to create an Etsy shop, to expand my market, and for the sheer fun of creating more wreaths!

Who is the brain behind your Etsy shop?
Cheesey photo of me taken by my mom while wreath wrapping!
My name is Kaitlyn, but I only use that for the really special occasions. I am a wife, a daughter, a loyal friend, the oldest of three siblings, a very proud first-time puppy mommy, and have a Bachelor of Psychology, and Masters degree Occupational Therapy. I graduated in 2010, and love the profession of occupational therapy. I live in a cozy house in Manitoba, with my black Shih-tzu puppy, Lewis. I hope to get him a Great Dane friend in a couple of years. I have a passion for riding horses, and for animals in general, and nearly entered into the field of veterinary medicine.

I hate mushrooms, clowns, heights and grasshoppers. I love stationary, fabric, and cream eggs.

What was the last thing you purchased from Etsy?

Red and aqua bakers' twine from RyannMarin.  Not here yet, but I just love it!

One piece of advice for opening an Etsy shop?Know that you can do it, but remember that it will take time (and is harder than it looks)!
Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at:

1) Cooking and baking. I love it.
2) Writing super long emails.
3) Microsoft Word. Super dorky, I know, But I am pretty much a whiz at creating anything in Microsoft Word (don’t ask me about any other computer programs, though)!

Name three things you consider yourself to be very bad at:

1) Mental math
2) Using lap tops. I am a desktop kind of girl and hate using lap tops without an external mouse.
3) Sports (exceptions: horseback riding, and high jump)

What was your last non-Etsy related creative pursuit?

For my graduation gift, I asked for a vintage dining room set that I had seen on Kijiji. My wonderful in-laws purchased it for me, and I set my mind to reupholster all six dining room chairs. I had never touched a sewing machine before! However, I persevered and love the finished results!

What are your favourite three items in your Etsy shop?

1) Sugar Plum Wreath

3) Antique Rose Wreath

As a WB Seller, all Wedding Bells members will receive 10% off their order by using the coupon code "Weddingbells10" and mentioning their WB identity upon checkout.  Also, as a fun bonus, my first ten customers to my Etsy shop will receive a free coordinating hair piece with any wreath purchase.  Hop to it!
