.:What’s the story behind your etsy shop?:.
Like many etsy sellers of baby related items, I started making things for my daughter and as gifts for friends who had babies. Then people started asking to buy things, so I thought –why not list them on etsy. But I didn’t want to open a shop for the heck of it and just sell things that others were making, so I started brainstorming new ideas! That’s when Monty the Monkey Lovey was born. And from there – it just spiralled and I became addicted to thinking up new items! I’ve got a shelf full of animals, bugs, suns, and robots and a sketchbook full of creatures waiting to be made! My list of products continues to evolve and grow as I get custom orders and think up new things to make for miss Nora.
.:What’s your story?:.
I’m a new mom in my late twenties. I’ve always been crafty – to the point of driving my husband nuts! Once I get an idea in my head, I can’t sleep until it’s started. I have a now seven month old baby, Nora who is a total ham and a little doggie named Digby.
In my ‘real life’ job, which I’m currently on maternity leave from, I’m an Intergovernmental Affairs Analyst for the federal government. It sounds boring, but it’s super cool. Though, I have to admit, I’m loving maternity leave!
.:What are your three favourite items in your shop?:.
That’s a tough question to answer! I feel like I have a personal connection to everything in my shop and get a little sad when I send a creature out into the world (weird, I know). But if I had to choose three, they’d be:
The personalized ribbon lovey. I just think these are adorable and a fantastic keepsake!
My next choice would be Alfie the Robot Lovey. The geek in me just loves this guy to pieces!
.:What are you working on next for the shop?:.
Like I mentioned above, I have a whole sketchbook full of ideas for new loveys. I’m practically bursting with ideas for new creatures. I also have a whole host of design ideas for my personalized bow and headband holders and growth charts.
In terms of new products I have lots of other ideas brewing including fabric blocks and other toys, personalized felt and fabric books, and more!
I also love all of the custom orders and personalization requests that I have gotten so far and look forward to continuing that!
And, if I somehow find another few hours in the day, I am thinking about opening a second shop with personalized sewn goods for mom and dad :)
.:What was your last non-Etsy related creative pursuit?:.
Who has time for non-Etsy creativity? Between balancing etsy with play time with Nora and my husband, there is no time!! (Notice I didn’t mention housework in that balance?!) I’ll mention something semi-etsy related in that it’s not listed in my shop but is an idea for the future...
I recently had the pleasure to make a personalized cover for a WB friend and fellow etsy-er, buysomelove. It was so much fun to work with buysomelove and combine our creativitiy to come
up with a really neat product. I love it so much that I’m going to make one for myself!
